Party finger food recipes need not be complex or laborious to produce. On a Stick! written by photographer Matt Armendariz is a stunning and tantalizing selection of over 80 party food recipes. As the title suggests these can all be put onto a stick to provide a fun and easy way for your guests to eat.

They are not limited to sticks: he describes the benefits of other sticks and skewers such as using sugarcane for heavier meat and also to provide additional flavouring or rosemary sticks for a lovely herbal infusion. There are hints and tips and in this section the author recommends pre-soaking wooden skewers prior to grilling so that the sticks do not catch fire. Other tips and hints include optional additional toppings, glazing and how to serve.

The skewered snacks are divided into savoury and sweet. Not only are they easy to serve to your guests they are quick and easy to prepare and make. There are many benefits to serving food on a stick other than the entertainment value and the main benefit has to be that it allows the host to mingle with the guests more. This in turn allows them the freedom of movement that a more traditional sit down meal may prevent.

Matt Armendariz has created some visual feasts and there are some stunning photographs. Through his creative and innovative snacks Matt shares his love for food served on sticks and skewers. His enthusiasm shines through each page from bacon wrapped shrimp with honey mustard dipping sauce or crispy orange beef skewers or decorated sugar cookies. With the readily available ingredients with realistic timings of preparation and cooking times readers will soon be producing these tiny marvels and perhaps even creating their own.

There is a strong International feel which will give your summer a range of tastes and flavours. So the reader will find those from regions and countries like the Middle East of beef and vegetable kebabs, Vietnam meals like Bo La Lot, German favourites like Bratwursts with Sauerkraut relish and creamy horseradish dipping sauce. American delights such as chicken and waffles, Chinese chicken satay, Korean traditional recipe of dak sanjuk or Italian deep fried ravioli with marinara sauce. Mexican street cuisine of Elote, classic Japanese dish of yakitori and Greek lamb souvlaki with cucumber yogurt sauce. The UK is not forgotten and to further demonstrate the innovation of Matt Armendariz he has created the great British classic fish and chips.

Further examples include spicy Cajun skewers with spicy buffalo dipping sauce and an idea that few may have thought possible to serve on a stick: spaghetti and meatballs.

Vegetarian snacks include savoury tofu dango Japanese dumplings, fried mozzarella with marinara sauce and fried mushrooms with roasted onion dip.

Sweet and puddings range from caramel popcorn balls, chocolate covered cheesecake, cinnamon rolls with creamy vanilla icing and ice cream sandwiches served with homemade chocolate chip cookies. Healthy party foods includes a range of fruit skewers.

Recipe Book Reviews were delighted to read the frozen Elvis sweet based on the King's favourite of peanut butter, bananas and crispy bacon on toasted grilled bread.

Alcoholic based treats include margarita jell-o shots, mojito melon fruit skewers and red and white sangria pops.

Throughout there are a range of dips, sauces and toppings to accompany them. These include mango salsa, peanut dipping sauce and sweet and sour chilli sauce.

Tiny Party Food

Tiny Food Party!: Bite-Size Recipes for Miniature Meals is packed full of little morsels of delight. From the moment we read that the author, Jenny Park, describes herself as a professional eater, we knew we were in for a treat. Together with photographer Teri Lyn Fisher they have collected their favourite bite sized treats and conveniently broken them down into chapters with suggested menus. These include a little menu for tiny BBQ, vegetarian, breakfast, lunchbox treats, dessert and party food for kids. So for example in the quick and easy party food section you will find crab cakes, beef empanadas and meat loaves: all served in tiny finger sized portions that can be popped easy in the mouths of guests.

It is an American recipe book with some great US snacks such as mac 'n' cheese bites, Philly cheesesteak sandwiches, chicken 'n' waffles, corn dogs and deep-dish pizzas.

There are also international meals which includes Vietnamese banh mi sandwiches, Mexican fried tacos, Brazilian coxinha, Portuguese bolinhos de bacalhau, Mediterranean savoury scones and Korean pajeopn.

Intermingled are handy hints and tips. For example on the beef empanadas page Jenny Park suggests crimping the edges with a fork to make a decorative edge.

Desserts include small white chocolate cheesecakes, homemade hostess cupcakes and Boston cream cakes.

Wherever possible there are variations such as potato samosas where cooks can swap the potatoes with steamed and diced cauliflower or other ingredients like chicken, beef, lamb and vegetables.

Cocktails for parties include bloody Marys using soju, the Korean rice wine instead of the traditional vodka ingredient, ginger mint lemonades and eggnog shooters.
